District Swimming Championships

On Tuesday, 5th March, twenty-seven students from Grades 3-6 went to the Werribee Outdoor Olympic Pool to participate in the District Swimming Carnival.

Our students were inspired by the wonderful parent turnout who came along to cheer them on and finished in fifth place overall. Final school placings were:

Simone P and Jane Z finished in first and second place respectively in the 11 year old breaststroke. Jane Z also won the 11 year old 50m butterfly and displayed excellent sportsmanship as she clapped home her competitors as they touched the wall at the end of the race. Phoebe G finished second in the 12 year old 50m butterfly.

Our 11 year old freestyle relay time, consisting of Jane Z, Aria W, Simone P and Bridie M, finished in first place.  All five girls mentioned have now qualified for the Division Swimming Finals which are scheduled to take place at the same venue next Thursday, 14th March. We wish them well.

Other ribbon winners on the day were Phoebe G finishing in third place in the 50m freestyle. Our 9/10 boys freestyle relay team (Lucas N, Lucas A, Thomas M and Cruz M) finished second. Our 12 girls freestyle relay team (Phoebe G, Poppy W, Grace A and Henrietta L) finished third, as did our girls medley relay team (Jane Z, Phoebe G, Henrietta L and Bridie M).

Congratulations to all of the students who participated on the day. They were wonderful representatives of the school, swam well and had a lot of fun. Thanks also to the parents who came out to support our swimmers, and in particular to David Wetzler who volunteered as timekeeper throughout the day.
